Bloom
Jan 2024, Anilao, Philippines
The flamboyant cuttlefish is putting on a vibrant display of yellow and pink hues on its tentacles, like a flower blooming on the seafloor. Unlike other cuttlefish that change color and texture for camouflage, this venomous cuttlefish primarily rely on their bold coloration as a warning signal. Additionally, rather than swimming or hovering, the flamboyant cuttlefish exhibits a unique locomotion style by “crawling”across the seafloor, using the undulating movements of its fins and arms.
